Earlier this month, Apple received a license to begin testing autonomous automotive technology in California, and now the first video of the manufacturer’s test vehicle has been seen.
The car, a white Lexus RX450h crossover, was spotted somewhere in Silicon Valley. The car appears to be equipped with third-party sensors and hardware, including a LODAR sensor made of Velodyne, two radar units and multiple cameras, according to Bloomberg.
It is unclear what kind of data Apple will gather, given the secrecy of its autonomous car unit. But it is known, from various information and rumors of Cupertino, that Apple has abandoned its ambitions to build an entirely new vehicle from scratch and is now focused on building a software that can be used in existing cars.
